The Research Server is a server-class virtual computer that you can use for heavy computational jobs that would otherwise take weeks or months to complete, or to host web services and online databases.
It is an even more powerful cloud compute resource than Researcher Desktop, for those who need to run the machine longer, either to complete long-running jobs or provide 24/7 web-based services. Unlike the managed, standardised Researcher Desktop service, you can also choose the number of virtual CPUs and amount of RAM you need. And coming soon to this new service will be speciality resources such as GPGPUs and GPUs.
Available at no cost to all University of Melbourne researchers, including graduate research students, and external research collaborators.

Please note that a connection to the University's VPN is required when accessing the Research Computing Portal off-campus.
