Researchers are subject to a variety of domestic and international regulatory obligations regarding the collection, use and management of data from or regarding individuals. These data include personal demographic details, images, audio and video recordings, spatial data of individuals, identifiable survey or interview data, medical records, health or genetic information, personal opinions or information posted on social media etc.
The University’s Privacy Policy (MPF1104) recommends a proactive privacy approach and requires that privacy considerations are embedded into the design of both research processes and information systems. This policy applies to all areas of the University.
The University’s Privacy team can assist with Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and provide guidance on privacy obligations, researcher responsibilities and any general enquiries related to the management of personal and health information. The Privacy website also provides an overview of common privacy-related scenarios as well as additional guidelines to ensure the safe and secure management of personal data.
